Upcoming: Actionatr

It didn’t exist, so I decided to build it.

Much like Actiontasic, Actionatr is the web app I always wanted for getting things done. No fiddling. No tweaking. Just a sign up, followed by totally hot box checking.

It will work like Actiontastic. It will sync with Actiontastic. It will be included for everyone who purchases Actiontastic 1.0. It is the reason I couldn’t sit still after hearing the iPhone has a web browser. If you’re interested in getting the upcoming release notice, sign up today.

And yes, your next Actiontastic release is in the oven with new features and polish based on your feedback on this blog, over email, in The Hub, and on Twitter. More on that over the next few days, followed by a release before the beta expires.

[…] The author of the mac-based GTD productivity application Actiontastic has decided to make an online sister (or borther) for his app, and announced today the launch of Actionatr. From what I saw on the brief announcement, I understand that Actionatr will flawlessly sync with Actiontastic. As far as I know this is the only offline/online pair of GTD applications that was made public. You cannot really see anything on Actionatr website but you can submit your email to be announced when things will become a little more visible than now. […]

Fantastic, this is what I’ve been waiting to hear! Finally I will be able to drop GTDGmail and have Actiontastic goodness at home on my Mac and at work on the PC. Tell me where to sign!!

Great news! I agree with Chris, something I can use on the Macs at home and on the PC at work. Look forward to it!

    Jon,

How cool! Any timeline, perhaps by summer? Not sure if this is possible, but one of the features that I really like about gubb.net is the ability to text a blank message to a list’s special email address and the service sends you back a text with the list. This could be superuseful for when you need your contexts on the go, in a store, etc.

Jon, This is outstanding. You’ve really created, what I think is more difficult than not, which is an elegant, simple product. Well done. I can’t wait to see actionatr.

    This sounds extremely cool. :)

A favor to ask, though — do you think you could possibly set out at least a tentative roadmap for your products, for those of us who are evaluating the plethora of GTD products that are coming out these days? Just some very basic projections as to time frame, expected feature set, and anticipated price would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Will I be able to import my tracks data (http://www.rousette.org.uk/projects/) into actiontastic or actionatr? This would be extremely helpful.

  12. Jon wrote:

    @Ian:

Actionatr will have an open API so you will be able to import and export using that if you know a bit about scripting.

    Jon,
You are the reason I continue to support the Mac and open source community. I originally posted a comment asking you make this app compatible with Backpack, and then after using your app for a month I’ve ended my subscription to backpack.

You have the best app I’ve seen for GTD and I am in for the long haul. I will begin blogging about this app now that you are getting closer to a release (been burned by betas before :))

Thank you for all the hard work. I am a user who is just happy as a clam with your hard work.

I hope actionatr will be able to send reminder text messages to my phone.

    Hi,

I’d just like to say thank you for ActionTastic. It is so simple it’s amazing! I have tried so many other GTD products which have major flaws (i.e. having the ability to nest projects - seems good at the time but BAD BAD BAD - I can’t see everything - a depth level of one (like ActionTastic) is the best way to go).

You have made it really simple. It shouldn’t get more complicated than this, simplicity = efficiency.

    Little bit of feedback:

I believe that making URL’s automatically change to links in the Notes section (and removing the URL) text field is a good way to go. I might have more than one URL (e.g. one might be a word document, using file:// and another might be a webpage via http:// etc).

Still an issue with the start date for projects, if I change the date to tomorrow, then as soon as I click out of the text field, it disappears. “future” actions should still be visible, at least when “All” is selected… as what happens if that action is moved forward? I can’t access it to do this, so have to re-enter it and then I have a duplicate.

However still the best product I’ve used. I have recently discovered QuickSilver, 1Passwd, Default Folder X, Text Wrangler, and Desk Doctor (for RSI). EasyFind I still like too. Yay to all the great products out there :o) Has taken be years to get organised, I’ve finally got a system that works.

Also a few minor bugs, but overall an amazing product.

Thank you, thank you, thank you :o) :o) :o)

Stunning piece of software! It’s actually helping me to change the way I live my life and making me a happier person. Thank you.

    Most wanted additional feature:
Would love to be able to sort items by clicking on the column header (as per Mac OS).
